February is the month of love. We often find ourselves wrapped up in gift-giving and grand displays of affection. But love isn't always about romantic gestures and celebrations. Love surpasses all limitations as we find it scattered in small little things: a smile from a stranger on the crossroad; our favorite meal on a rainy day; a text from long lost friends asking to reconnect.
As we sit here reflecting on where to find love, we took pride in knowing one thing for sure: love takes form in kindness. If it's true that love lies within us, that can only mean action. But sometimes we are too caught up in finding momentum. Even when the right moment comes, chances are we still put love on hold because there comes another question: how? Then that very moment passes us by, and once again, love has to wait. Kindness has to wait.
Maybe we need a reminder that contains call to action, and probably this is it.
Back in December of last year, BIKO had the chance to visit some orphanages in Jakarta. Though our representative didn't get to meet all of the kids (they were mostly at school or on a field trip), our donations are well received by the administrators, whom we trust are amazing caretakers doing good cause for humanity. The visit was spontaneous and rather brief, but "definitely marks a lasting impression" as said by Savira Nasution from Marketing Team who represented BIKO that day. Turns out it's true that in a world where our lives are often consumed by our own concerns and lackings, the simple joy of giving, gives life a meaning.
Despite the lack of proper documentation, these pictures deserve a spot in our column. We want it to serve as a reminder that we may go on with our days doing our own thing, tackling this, accomplishing that — which won't always be sunshine and rainbow. Sometimes we'll feel uninspired and stuck. And by then, we hope this memento reminds us of what we can always do, what won't fail and what will always strive.
Afterall, the time to love, to be kind, is always now.
